Have you noticed your pet having a wet bottom? This is a different case from the ones you usually see when they are literally wet from leaking water bottle or after a fight. Having a wet tail is a critical condition. This is indeed a condition that you have to be alarmed of. What are some causes of your hammy having a wet tail? Primarily, this is due to diarrhea. Hamster tummies are very sensitive that they are always prone to diarrhea. Come to think of it, hamsters living in the wild are often seen in deserts and dry areas where they only feed on dry grains. After domesticating them, most owners would give them fresh veggies and fruit. Not knowing that these food might affect the digestion of these small creatures. Diarrhea is also the main reason why you should avoid feeding your hamsters citrus fruit.

Another cause of wet tail is stress. Keeping a hamster in stress can lead to diarrhea. Similar with humans who are tensed or in a stressful situation, hamsters under stress also upset their tummies. Having to watch out for bully hammies inside an enclosure is going to put your hamster in a stressful state.
Be warned again that wet tail is a dreadful condition for your small furries. With diarrhea untreated, they can die after a few days.
There are things that you can do to help your hamster recover from wet tail:
a. After diagnosing wet tail, avoid giving your hamster fresh veggies. Study if fresh food is the culprit of your hamster's problem.
b. Try to calm your hamster by placing it in a clean cage with new bedding, water and food. Having a clean environment might just relieve your hamster from stress.
c. Help your hamster treat its diarrhea by providing diatomaceous powder (DE powder) added to its water.
